At W & E "Stories make the best decor" started as a tagline made on the spur of the moment, but it struck a chord with our kindred spirits immediately. It's become more than a slogan, and it's truly how the seeds of our story began.

The very first time we (Hiata and Maria) met was October 2023, when Winifred and Evalyn was just 8 months old. Striking up a chat over pottery from India, our conversation slipped almost instantly to stories. We discussed not just our own story, but also our fascination with the real stories that lie behind the objects we love. How a textile might hold the rhythm of a weaver’s village, or how a piece of pottery might carry the memory of hands shaping clay, all passed on for generations to enjoy. We discovered quickly that we shared the same devotion: not only to the products themselves, but to knowing the people behind them, the artists and artisans who breathe life into what we buy and sell.

It's the stories and relationships that make a home come alive.

We realized we weren’t interested in the “fast decorating” that fills rooms just to check a box, the cheap cotton pillows to be discarded in a year or two. We believe in slow decorating, how spaces unfold like chapters of a book, each object layered in with care, memory, and meaning. In a world increasingly shaped by speed, doom-scrolling and AI (and don't get us wrong, technology is wonderful!) and post-pandemic, we feel the importance of human connection deeply. It’s the stories and relationships that make a home come alive.

That’s how our collaboration was born: two simpatico women swapping stories, sharing passions, and recognizing that the objects around us carry far more than beauty: they carry belonging, history, and connection.
