Gargoulette Water Jug with Two Spouts: These jugs were used throughout the Mediterranean Basin for centuries for water, and the porous nature of the jugs helped keep the water cool through evaporation. The jugs were attached to workers belts, and they would drink while working; it’s a heavy jug!
 
I discovered this antique jug in at the Eygalieres flea market -- the village of Eygalieres holds a once-a-month flea market that runs the length of the main street and is held on the last Sunday of each month. My last itinerary to Provence was created specifically around this monthly market, and it did not disappoint. Beginning at the top of the main street, the market goes from end to end, and each side of the street is packed with vendors and gorgeous treasures.
 
9” H x 7” W (spout to spout) One-of-a-kind beautiful ochre glaze over a clay found in Southern France, one handle and two spouts. This is a heavy piece weighing nearly four pounds.
