A "Franco-Anglaise Canard" platter is an antique earthenware piece, produced by the French ceramic company Compagnie Franco-Anglaise. The name refers to the transfer-printed "Canard" (duck) scene in brown, a style that was influenced by English transferware traditions.

Compagnie Franco-Anglaise was a French company located at 78 rue Turbigo in Paris. These pieces are generally dated to the late 19th century. At the time, French factories often produced ceramics that blended English transferware techniques with popular French-market motifs.

"Transferware" refers to the process where a pattern is printed onto tissue paper from an engraved copper plate and then transferred to the earthenware before firing. The result is a highly detailed design with fine, engraved lines.

A "Canard" platter specifically features a duck, likely as part of a larger, elaborate, pastoral or naturalistic scene. These platters often have intricate decorative borders of fruits and foliage. The platters are made from earthenware, also known as Terre de Fer (ironstone). This durable material was an alternative to more expensive porcelain and was popular during the Industrial Revolution for creating affordable but elegant dinnerware.
